この日は、高波と抗議行動の影響で作業は行われなかったものの、翌17日には海底の掘削が行われようとしている。

ピースボートやアジア太平洋平和フォーラム（APPF）の呼びかけにより追悼キャンドルアピールが行われ、250人以上が集まった（主催者発表）。
小泉首相は12月14日で期限切れとなる自衛隊のイラク派遣をさらに延長すると発言している。それに対し自衛隊の撤退を求める声があがった。

The drilling survey toward the construction of an offshore heliport base at
Henoko, Okinawa was coming near to be enforced. Actions were taken to
prevent the construcion in front of the Defense Agency in Tokyo, as well as
the local protests.
On September 9th, a hue and cry was more intensified, being informed of the
nominal "start of construction" to create a fait accompli.

U.S. military on August 13, in Ginowan, Okinawa Prefecture.

8月13日午後2時頃、米軍海兵隊の輸送ヘリが沖縄国際大学内に墜落した。普天間基地から飛び立ったヘリだった。大学周辺は住宅街であり、ローターやプロペラなどが地域に落下していた。ヘリの乗務員が負傷したのみで、住民に死傷者が出なかったことが不思議だ。
墜落現場は米軍の統制下におかれ、警察、宜野湾市関係者も立ち入る事ができず、怒りが倍加した。

At around 2:00pm, August 13th, a transport helicopter of the U.S. Marine
Corps crashed on the campus of Okinawa International University. The
helicopter was reported to have taken off from the Futenma base. Debris
including the rotor and the propeller were scattered in the residential
neighborhood. It is rather stunning that the only injured are the crew of
the helicopter, but no death or injury occured against the residents.
The crash site is under the control of the U.S. forces, initially locking
out even the Okinawa police and the officials of Ginowan city, to double
the local ire.

アメリカに対しての抗議行動をする人々は警察に阻まれ大使館の前には行けず、代表団が申入書を渡した。

While the three Japanese who had been taken hostages in Iraq have now been
released, Iraqi people are still in anguish. In Falluja, in particular, it
is reported that 700 were killed by the US army.
Protesters to the Unites States were blocked by police to approach the
embassy, so their delegates handed written petition instead.

イラクで、日本人３名がとらえられたことに関連し、社会民主党党首、福島瑞穂氏は、彼等を拘束している武装勢力に対し、３名をただちに釈放するよう、声明を発表した。
この声明は、アルジャジーラなど、イラクの報道機関へ送られる。福島氏は、彼等３名が、イラクを愛し、イラクの人達のために献身的に働いていた人々であり、ただちに釈放すること、彼等を殺さないことを求めた。同時に、この事態を引き起こしたすべての責任は、小泉政権のアメリカに追随した誤った政策にあり、日本政府はただちに自衛隊をイラクから引きあげることを強く求めた。

Sen, Mizuho Fukushima, the President of Social Democratic Party of Japan, issued an urgent statement demanding the Iraqi guerilla to release three Japanese citizens immediately.
SDP has been strongly opposite to the Koizumi administration's attempt to dispatching the Self Defense Forces to Iraq.
She said that Japanese people feel deep sympathy to the Iraqi people who are suffering from intolerable agony as a result of US occupation. She pointed out that the three captives are one of those Japanese people who love Iraq and who have been working, with the best of intentions, to realize a good end for Iraqi people.
They should be released without delay and they should no be killed. She also pointed out that the Koizumi administration should withdraw the Self Defense Forces from Iraq immediately.
